Why I Only Shoot Film (And How That Shapes Your Experience)

When you book a session with me, you’re not just hiring someone to take pictures. You’re inviting someone into your space, your story, your family’s real and unfolding life. And I’ve made an intentional choice to document that with film.

Not film style or a preset that mimics it. I’m talking about actual, tangible rolls of film loaded by hand, metered with care, developed in a lab, and held up to the light before they’re ever scanned.

Here’s why I only shoot film, and what that means for you.

1. Film slows everything down (in the best way)

There’s no instant review on the back of the camera. No rush to overshoot or chase the “perfect” frame. Shooting film invites presence, for both of us. I take my time with each frame, allowing space for quiet moments, natural connection, and real emotion to come forward.

You’ll feel the difference. It’s slower, softer, and more intentional, something I’ve found to be a beautiful match for the tender pace of motherhood.

2. It’s not about perfection, it’s about depth

Film sees things differently. The way it handles light, the softness of skin tones, the little imperfections it embraces… all of it adds up to something that feels richer and more emotionally layered than digital ever could. These aren’t just pretty pictures. They’re soulful. They feel alive.

And in a world that constantly wants us to polish, correct, and curate, film says: This is enough. You are enough.

3. It invites trust—and that changes everything

Because I can't instantly show you the back of the camera, there’s a quiet trust built into the process. You’ll lean into the experience. You’ll feel guided rather than posed. You’ll get to be present with your children, your body, your home, without wondering how it’s all looking.

And when the scans come back weeks later? It’s like holding memory in your hands.

4. Film creates art with intention

I believe the photos we make together should feel like art, something you want to print and live with. Because I shoot on film, each image is carefully composed and thoughtfully exposed. That level of intention translates to the final gallery. Every photo feels purposeful.

You won’t have hundreds of digital images to scroll through. Instead, you’ll receive a curated set that tells your story with honesty, tenderness, and artistry.

5. It’s not for everyone—and that’s okay

Choosing film isn’t about being trendy or nostalgic. It’s about alignment. It’s about the kind of experience I want to offer, and the kind of stories I want to help tell.

If you're looking for a fast-paced, hyper-polished, shoot-and-deliver session... I might not be your person.

But if you want images that feel like you, created with intention and care, then this just might be the start of something beautiful.
